Tento neobvyklý rod byl popsán podle jediného exempláře chyceného v roce 1908 v Aruataima Falls, vodopádu z horního toku Potaro River v Guayaně. Systematické postavení tohoto rodu je nejisté, často bývá řazen do čeledi Astroblepidae.
