Jižní Amerika — od řeky Cuyani ve východní Venezuele po povodí řeky Sinnamary ve Francouzské Guyaně (Francouzská Guyana, Guyana, Surinam a Venezuela). Obývá především menší podhorské až horní úseky toků, často nad písčitým dnem, místy se štěrkem a kameny.
